distance kayaked: 12.5 miles
total confirmed miles to date: 989

As you can tell from the map, the New River narrows very rapidly above the trip start location; the influence of the tide decreases as well. Clay banks are replaced by sand bars and steep dirt banks. I ended at a campsite from which I will be able to easily continue. However, the shallow depth and the many twists in the river make it impractical to continue in my touring kayak. My next trip, in which I will complete the river, will be in my old recreational kayak.

Have you taken your new kayak out to the coast yet?

No; I haven't been able to figure out rolling yet, and I don't think it's a good idea to go out into the Gulf until I can roll. (Using flotation bags to get back into a swamped kayak is pretty lame.)
