A ridiculous amount of people are claiming that they would be fit for the Admin position, but really, I don't think most of you quite understand what your duties as an Admin will be.

Oh, yeah, I get it, what could Shane possibly say on the subject of being an Admin, being, as the community dubs, 'Locke 2.0'?

I've been babysitting children and mediating petty problems for years now, and those two skills are paramount as an Admin of FFO. You might think, oh, it's ****ing simple. Make a list of rules then smack people who break those rules.

Remember when Spam Killing was a rule?

Remember when you, the player, had to take fifty screenshots to prove that your third kill was totally provoked and didn't fall under the spam killing rule, or when you got spam killed and had to take 70 screenshots to prove that you did get spam killed? And then you had to transfer all that **** to the admin?

The admin had to look at that ****. Try to figure out the entire scenario. Decide if it does or doesn't go against the rules. Then make a ruling.

The decision part is where it gets you. FFO is not a simple game. There's so many factors going in. Hostilities, griefing, provoking, etc. etc.. Not a single party ever went into a spamkilling case and came out happy with the ruling. Ever. Everyone was upset about the ruling, no matter how it was ruled. And because of that, everyone cried the admin was biased.

There's been like 10 or so admins go through that now, and still the same results. Guys, it's not the admins that are biased. It's you.

In doing my admin job, I attempted to abandon much of my bias. To an extent I let **** slide, but that was also unbiased - I turned a blind eye to some bull**** my enemies did just as I turned a blind eye to some bull**** my allies did. I don't believe rules should exist as a strict guideline to be followed to the heart, but rather the spirit of the rules being set in be followed. Sometimes there's some rulebreaking that is completely non-griefy, and that's chill with me.

So what major decisions have I made?

Back during the Level 20 hosting I made a decision that removed Nolynn's, Jeebs', and Magnus' GM by loose proxy of the chain of events (in that I basically catalyzed it), and the following hosting had Dean's Admin removed and Deylin's icon checker removed. I came out on top as the only active admin at the time - an entire group quit playing, and it was like two years before one of them who I considered a close, close friend even considered talking to me at all.

The decisions I made leading to the above were directed for the good of FFO and the better of the majority of the playerbase.

That's the kind of decision admins have to make, especially if they actually play the game. Some pretty cool friends of mine hated me and I allowed that for the purpose of making the game better for everyone else.

As Kumog put it in another topic, thankless job. Not only was I not thanked for this, but some of the folk I attempted to help with these decisions called me biased anyway.

Oh man, and then the hosting after. I'm sure a lot of you guys remember that one - I willingly allowed duped gold and stuff to exist for ages that put two sides in stark lead over another side.

The two sides mostly used that gold for recreational purposes. They still put in immense efforts to obtain godlike gear, and said gear was mostly funded by their efforts anyway. But then war happened. And gold started getting used for the purpose of maintaining a lead over others.

I banned only one side in possession of duped gold. I considered that side my friends, but the possession of said stuff ended up getting griefy and ruined the experience for some players. All in all, a bannable offense - and those affected really should have acknowledged the risk for abusing such a thing.

The side I didn't ban were also my friends. They had also proven to me that they didn't need to use all that gold anyway and maintained their lead through legit playing. It was either that or I was lied to pretty heavily, in which case I'm impressed at how well it was hidden from me anyway.

But then the side that was getting hurt by this started attempting to abuse it themselves for their own gain. Welp, sucked to be them.

I intentionally never explained my side to either of these happenings because, honestly, who would really listen to Locke 2.0?

But seriously, I made those decisions to what I believed to be for the better of the playerbase (with a little bit of trolling because you guys are asses anyway). I like to think that Gaku agreed that was what I was shooting for which is why I retained Admin over such a long period of time, regardless of the drama it sparks.

So what about you guys. Do you guys really want Admin because you want to see towards helping out FFO's community, or is it just because you want to represent your faction?

Because I promise either way you'll be hated and either way no one will like your decisions. FFO sucks like that, but it's an Admin's job to take all that **** and blame and still attempt to make good decisions through all of that ****ery.

Just some food for thought.

Just some food for thought because:

You have legitimately made me butthurt.

I have tears crying out of my ass because you have assaulted my ego and everything I felt.

You have completely ruined anything I still liked about FFO with your being complete ******s, and you have actually wrecked my patience to the point that I've given up.

All I wanted was to be able to play the game with my friends and do **** that was enjoyable, not toxic. Then you guys came back and demanded a pwipe because you kept losing, even though it was your faults for constantly attacking when you couldn't have won.

And you finally got your pwipe, and that wasn't enough for you. You wanted Admin. Somehow, you convinced Gaku to give it to you, even when I told him I disliked the idea of Blax having admin, but 'lo, Blax has admin.

And I spent most of my free time, instead of shopcamping on FFO, instead of "powergearing", instead of grinding for gold to afford some Speeds on the second day of the hosting, on what would have probably been the largest gift anyone has ever done for the FFO community.

Congrats, you ****ing ******s. Enjoy your toxic, ****ty, flawed game. I hope to god you don't realize what's so appealing about Terulia and go off to ruin some other **** like ******s are wont to do.

Admins were created by Gaku to help him with the non-game elements of FFO. Years ago Gaku would have to be icon checker, guide appointer, and Admin all in one. He wanted to be able to spend more time coding FFO instead of micromanaging it. So then he started having other players help, like how Oon was the first Icon Checker.

I think this thread kind of shows why Blax wouldn't be a suitable Admin. Immaturity.

Also, good post Shane. I love you baby cakes.

It also shows, Imo anyway, How shane should not be an admin either. If you knew that shady stuff was going down (i.e. duped gold/gear, gm/bug abuse) you should have stopped it right then and there, not let it continue to fester until you have fed the drama and let a ****storm occur. Letting abuse go, to fuel the dram to make the game continue is a bad choice. This game will make its own dram either way, it doesn't need help.

reply to Shane:

I agree. That's why I think it's pretty shady for someone to want to nominate themselves so badly and be so persistent about it. I can't see many FFOers wanting this job out of the goodness of their heart. And if someone did, I kinda doubt they'd be persistent in the matter.

Although, some admins have actually been biased. Not ALL of the *****ing at all the admins was unwarranted.

Yes, but I am of the opinion that a lot of that bias grew from being universally and unanimously hated because in this game Admins are basically a scapegoat for blame.

@Magnus: Like I said, it's of my opinion that if a rule is being broken but not in a griefy manner, I'm pretty chill with it. Ruining the game for your own fun, however, is not good. I can understand finding this to be an undesireable trait in the long term, though, and agree with you at least in regards to the second case where I allowed gold duping to be done.

I wish to be admin because I love this game, and want to see it and Terulia succeed.

And being that I reside in no factions, or what-have-you; I can safely say that I would be doing my duties without an overwhelming sense of bias or obligation to one side or another.

This post was great. Some of the people that commented on it just proves my point a couple posts back. A majority of this community is just really two faced and I love it. You have no idea how entertaining it was to come home today to everything I was reading. **** I can't wait for tomorrow

We did an anarchy hosting once. There's a reason we're not anymore.

I didn't edit anything Shane posted, except for the word "because" and increasing the size/font on one sentence. So how does this reflect me or the color of my skin or other people with similarly colored skin in any way?

Way to be all defensive. I just thought it was cute, your and Black's response, and you both happen to be black colored people.
