Current state of FFO

So.. from the looks of various threads on here, it seems as if FFO is, for the most part, dead.

Some people seem to be turned off from the game because of the lack of players, and of course it's a problem seeing as how FFO can't be shown publicly on BYOND anymore. No advertisement, no new players. I wouldn't mind playing again, but I have to admit the lack of players is a deterrent for me as well.

My question is, why not just swap out FFO's graphics with Terulia's and host it as Terulia for some time until the version of Terulia in development is ready? Any FF-related text should be removed, too, I suppose.

Would provide the community here with fun through having fresh faces and graphics as well as bolstering the player-base for when Terulia finally comes around.

What threads a week or so old?

FFO's pretty damn active, surprisingly enough, considering the "current state" of it being dead. Usually get around 25+ people in the mid day, which sure doesn't mean **** to old hostings where there were 50+ easy, but still.

Ah, the thread was a few weeks old actually. Was looking at the last post date haha.

But I mean, FFO always seems to peak for a little bit after a pwipe then it seems to slowly die down. I still think erasing all of the "FF" from it and putting the game back on the hub could do it some good.

Yes, it could. However, Terulia is meant to be more than FFO, blah blah blah. Theoretically if we were to replace all the icons in the game to be presentable, personal non-copyrighted creations, we could put it on the Hub, but.. who is really interested in doing that?

Why not? Well, I can't say it wouldn't be a bad idea but it's more work than anyone would be willing to do anyway. Though imagine if FFO had as much people as other BYOND games, like 100+ at one time.. PvP would certainly be different that's for sure, with that many people (assuming most of them played to the cap). Thinking about mass wars with like 20+ people on each side and more sides than just "good guys" and "bad guys" makes me wannna wet myself.

I can dream, I guess.

I can do it. This would allow Gaku to get FFO back onto the hub, then we would have new players again. I don't see any downside to doing this, all I need is Gaku's approval.

I remember back when Terulia was just going to be a replacement of icons (to start).

Glad we got that done.

It's not a matter of gaku just wanting his creation to be on the hub, Gaku wanted to leave ffo be and use terulia as a seperate playing ground to actually gain a profit from.

I dunno how he'd even feel about swapping the icons with terulia icons, I'd be game for what ever he decides though. Although only by some stroke of sheer luck would gaku just give up on Terulia at present, due to what he's done with the coding.

But my honest opinion? I think that would be the only way to fully revitalize FFO at it's current state and that might not be a bad thing, as much as I bash the FFO community. Sure, FFO could use a lot of changes as far as mechanics go, and the Balancer Feature would make that more possible. I'd see people being moreso willing to contribute to the project in a manner of speaking, but the all of these claims are pretty much pointless unless the following questions are answered with a Yes...

1) Is Terulia able to even converge with FFO- As in, is gaku able to impliment the current mechanics involving terulia with FFO?

2) Is gaku even willing to do it?

3) Regarding how much **** the FFO community has given gaku in the past should he even consider doing this?

Again, this may not have been a bad idea way back when, and it's not too bad of an idea now, but you're all forgetting the one flaw with the idea.

The FFO community.

Sure it'd be fun for a while, but for how long? I mean, no game is fun for ever, and sure people join and quit a game on a steady basis, but in a game like this that sucks people in, and only let the strong thrive why wouldn't this simply recreate the same history FFO has currently displayed?

Anyways, I'm still working on terulia Dev, what ever decision gaku makes I'm all game for, Although IMO FFO would be much easier of a platform to rework, considering We've all played it and know where balancing and changes could be made at.

Hell even some of terulia's abilities could make thier way into what's currently FFO.

PS. This topic makes me sick to my stomach, But I like to not be a oldbie and just shut out every idea I don't like.

Edit:
After Re-reading my own post I asked myself what's wrong with FFO? Why Do we currently have FFO and Terulia as seperate entities right now?

Firstly a major problem that disbalances the community as a whole is Equipment Teirs.

The fact that you have some equipment that are flatout unconditionally better than some other equipment is offsetting. I mean sure the "BUT IT COSTS MORE" Excuse is valid, but once you pull in a steady amount of gold, or completely own a domain or chain of domains that's no longer the issue, making some players immediately out of league with others.

Moving on to the next problem, Players have too much control over domains and structure of the game. Domains and what not influence players heavily as far as gameplay and consistancy goes.

Lastly, Politics. Currently FFO as it stands is a complete free for all. As in you can be on what ever team you want to, when you want to, and can leave if they piss you off, or for one reason or another. Most of FFO's Drama has revolved around players backstabbing eachother every five seconds, and that's pretty fun in a game, especially for ninjas but the fact of the matter remains. Terulia was steering towards implimenting kingdoms, and mechanics as well as gameplay related features based around kingdoms, and what good will come of forcing this on the FFO community? another major reason why Terulia was a seperate entity. This idea was activly presented in a discussion before and was shot down and flamed hardcore by the community. Relating to kingdoms in 3.5 The society seemed to flourish much more often, so I don't know where to stand on that.

Anyways the list goes on and i'm too lazy to discuss any further, so i'll sit back and wait for a reply.

I think the idea was just to rework the icons so that it could be put on the hub.

Yeah, I got pretty lost in Marcus' post. I thought my original post was pretty clear on what I meant.

The proposed idea is to simply replace any FF graphics with Terulia graphics. Porting over mechanics would be a lot more work, which is why I didn't want to suggest it. The intent is essentially to make the game visible on BYOND's hub again and to open it up to new players.

That's pretty much what I'm hoping for, if anyone was willing to do the work that is - and it seems like there are several.

If Gaku could put the game back up on the hub, maybe even got it featured, I could see the game hitting a new high in terms of population, easily.

What I had in mind was changing all the icons in FFO that are copyrighted and names that are copyrighted. I could easily do this, by replacing them with the Terulia icons because they are already made. An all new set of icons would take alot longer, but can still be done. This would leave Gaku free to work on Terulia, and get FFO back on the hub.

This is exactly what I have had in mind for ages.

The difference is that I have access to all the Terulia tiles, basically all the monster icons, and I've created a lot of bases for the classes.

I'm working on the bases right now actually :P

I say screw Terulia in terms of it's playing style. Take 3.5 of FFO and replace those icons and good game. I don't know why Gaku is so insistent on making Terulia when that is pretty much what killed the game last hosting.

Because 3.5 has gone the way of the dodo.

It has ceased to be.

It is no more.

It is ex-3.5.

etc. etc.
