Note: This is an example. Elias has not submitted his icon, but it is a good example of an acceptable icon. Let's dissect, shall we?


The states are in the correct order and at first glance, the icon looks pretty good. Like a foxy red mage, it seems. A good idea for a Final Fantasy game.


The walk state isn't perfect but it looks pretty good.


The attack state isn't too special either, but considering this icon is for a Red Mage, it's not as important.


A simple but very good looking victory state. Nothing flashy or long animations, just a wavy cape.


A very good looking hurt state!


A much better OW than most custom icons we've seen. Well done!

One last point: Elias is known throughout the community and would certainly be qualified for a custom icon.

It's not just the qulity and level of player that should allow a custom icon although they 2 very important parts. If Gaku wants an icon, he'd have one. If Dream came back or someone else famous in FFO was around, they'd be 'allowed' to have an icon. Players with a very famous personality and have been around for a long time would be 'allowed' to have an icon.

Icons are meant to be special, but they aren't anymore. If everyone has a custom icons what's so custom about it anymore? Everyone is meant to be 'the same' except for those who separate themselves from the normal FFO crowd. This is meant to be represented through a custom icon.

Sorry I disagree with that, and that only brings even further politics into getting an custom icon. When really it should be based solely on the quality of the icon. What makes customs "special" is when players are creative with their icons. That is what you need to look at, not who has sucked more **** in FFO history. Just saying.

Everyone knows about his foxing out. The way IC was destroyed many hostings ago, the norkians, etc.
It's not that he's an oldbie, but it certainly increases the amount of things he's done because he's been around for more. He has a personality, everyone knows him. He is Elias.

That's right. It's not about who sucked more ****. Elias hasn't sucked any actually. Do you think a newbie who reaches level 20 and has, say, marcus, make him an icon instantly, that's of great quality, it should be accepted? Did that newbie truly earn their icon?

Sure, I like Elias and all but still really who cares about what a player has done before, that is totally irrevalent in each new hosting. This just turns getting a custom icon into a popularity contest. Next thing you'll know players will go around doing outrageous **** just for a little spotlight to get a custom. It's a ridiculous system. If you want to base customs on this, then you need to base it on things THIS hosting. And this hosting has just began so really it's really nothing spectacular that anyone has done so far.

What have you done in the community? You've made your characters modeling after what you've seen other players do. You are not original. You play a black knight. If every black ninja came to me with custom icons and said they were mysterious, black, and everyone knows who they are I probably wouldn't accept any of them.

haha im not original? ive played a knight every hosting no matter what nerfs were put in and no matter what other classes got buffeds and ive done this for a minimum of 6 years(as you say) since 3.5 this shows i have dedication and if you ask "what feats have you achieved in ffo" then i dont even know if i should reply to this but throughout the hostings ive done things no player would have even tried to do. i have soloed dragons every hosting no matter how **** buffed they got even to the point people actively called me out saying "you cant solo a dragon" and ive posted vids of me doing so. Ive also been the key instrument in many battles in the wars throughout the hostings such as last hosting when the war between deys and pos group was going on. For 6 days deys group had been attacking IGH and couldnt get in and do anything but i finally got a day off from work and we went up their during seige and i literally sat at their wall and beat it in for 8 minutes with their 10+ players attacking me. im not even gona continue this is rediculous.

This is insane.
Ive been a daily player since the middle of last hosting and I am not the only one who has been a daily player for that amount of time.
If you are gonnna make rules based entirely on who you like and have fond memories of, well thats fine and dandy. If you want to hand out rewards to players because somewhere, some time they amused you, thats cool.
But when I first found out about this game and fell in love with it it was nice to see that Gaku intended for custom icons to be a part of the FFO experience, Hell he advertised it on the main BYOND hub page for the game as a bonus for attracting players!
I was excited about creating a custom icon for my main! I spent hours and hours researching the old website and going through the archives to see what was acceptable, I spent days going pixel by pixel creating my icon, it was very difficult work, but something I actually took pride in! All in all it wasnt bad, it wasn't great, but it was mine and I took much pride in it! It made me feel like I actually accomplished something and set me apart from just some random player, and people started to recognise me.

Now it's all for nothing... You suck. Really... you absolutely suck. Period.

FFO has so little players there's no reason at all to prevent people from having a little fun by having custom icons

Tyrael's icon does look a little ****ty (movement/attacking) so icons should at least look good to be accepted

But preventing people from having an icon just because they aren't an oldbie is the stupidest thing I've ever heard and is a prime example of FFO nerd elitism hahaha
