immensely large parties

Immensely large parties of players of 10 or more have almost always been the source of immense game slowdown, because of the sheer amount of spawns they create and resources they use.

This is immensely prominent in areas such as Desert and Plain where there are multi-tile monsters. The issue is a combination of both large parties and multi-tile monsters.

A few people have suggested that we limit parties to 5 or 6 players. It has also been suggested to completely remove multi-tiles.

I want to hear the community's opinions on either:

A) Removing multi-tile monsters
B) Limiting party sizes

5 to 6? Awful idea. 10? Maybe. Remove multi-tile monsters.. you HAVE to be joking.

Do you have any other ideas that wouldn't cause the game to be unbearably slow for everyone not in the gigantic party?

i's say remove multi-tiles, why bother messing with the amount able to be grouped together, it seems detrimental to me

Both suggestions do nothing but to mask the real issue. It has to do with coding or BYOND, or just simply a combination of both. This is something Gaku has to look into with his coding, simply limiting parties or removing large tiled mobs does nothing to solve the issue.

Aside from making a 10 person limit (maybe), no. You asked for opinions not ideas.

Then I asked for ideas. Just sayin'.

How about an 8-person limit? Would you be fine with that?

why the **** limit the parties...why not just majorly shrink down multi-tiles, since players dont cause the damn lag, its the multi-tiles that do it, limiting parties wont stop it, if people run through desert or plains or hls even solo when its fresh it can slow the entire game down, so its not the damn party size, stop being ignorant and deal with the mobs that cause it ;)

Out of those 2 choices, I think removing multitiles would help the problem more and harm the game less. Huge parties don't lag in wt, where there are no multitiles, but a lone player can cause massive lag in the plains, desert, and especially highlands just by spawning enough multitiles.

heres a super cool idea. stop being crybabies. be less anti social and join a damn party. play around it or don't play at all. It isn't gamebreaking, it's barely ruining your experience and all I'm hearing is just more petty reasons to change the game more than it already has.
Shut up, play the game, and cry to yourself

iirc the reason newbies quit ffo was lag.

as far as I know gaku wants people to play his game.

A better solution, were I still working on FFO, would be to remove all randomly spawned multitiles, and make most bosses and champs multitiled.

That's a neato idea.

And in reference to party size you gotta be kidding. I have more than 8 friends (but barely). And I like all of them (sort of equally). I wouldn't even want to ditch Ace during a training party and EVERYONE HATES ACE.

it would be weird to see little tiny ogres and stuff but i'd deal with it even though multitile monsters have been an interesting aspect of ffo for years, if it helped the universal worst problem of ffo, which is lag

limiting party sizes would be kind of depressing -- having huge massive parties is one of the most fun things ffo has ever offered. but i kinda understand it, i mean, usually if there's a party training it's always one absolutely massive party that usually has a bunch of super strong dudes and a ton of people just leeching, that just goes around and destroys everything (then inevitably someone wants to go to the ruins for no reason and 800 wizards spawn and everyone dies) and everyone gets millions of experience in like 30 mins. then you could spend the rest of an entire week soloing on ffo without sleeping at all and not even get that much experience. it feels like there should be more incentive to have more smaller parties that're scattered around the world rather than the one absolutely massive one that just goes through desert/plains/ruins then logs out until the same time next day

but yeah it sounds like it's multitiles that causes the lag anyway and lag is like the major issue here so whatever fixes it. though i like how gaku says "if i were still working on it" like "haha deal w/ it idc"

Well considering a Byond bug only lets me see a quarter of multitile monsters to begin with...

This has nothing to do with the lag by the way..
Also.

I think we need to seriously consider limiting party sizes. Somewhere like 6-8 players per party.

I don't. It has nothing to do with party sizes.
