I have been debating myseslf whether to keep playing or just go ahead and quit now I mean if this revert is happenign it might as well just go head and happen since everyone is pretty much just sitting thsi one out now I did like Lethas idea of backing up the saves now so when this revert fails and it will fail we have something to at least go back to instead of a new wipe on current version

The server was almost dead before the thought of this new wipe even came into play. Unless of course you are talking about just the chance of the pwipe period, which has happened so many times in the history of FFO and it never kept people away before.

There was also people that didn't play this hosting who didn't approve of the revert. What's your point jeebey!? <3 As kumog said just because you didn't play doesn't mean your opinion was invalid so.

I think he means that while there are 2 B votes that I cannot say I know for sure played this hosting, there are almost 10 A votes that I know didn't. In other words half of the entire A vote was from people not currently playing.

I was voicing my approval of reverting in a thread talking about it, but even though I saw the actual legit voting thread I decided against casting an actual vote there as I felt a bit like I shouldn't since I haven't really TRIED to play this version much, but I certainly see myself playing an older re-hosted version much sooner for nostalgia and for the idea of a system that is more familiar to me and that I'm more used to / comfortable with. I think alot of other players would like that, too, and maybe even a lot more oldbies than you've seen for a long time would come back and at least slightly liven the community back up a bit since it's been awhile since we've been able to play "good old ffo".

That all being said, I do definitely agree with the above post that moving forward is the best idea. There are simply two reasons against it in this case;
1) Terulia would be focussed on so gaku can stop ****ing around with this old dead game and actually MOVE forward
2) FFO doesn't feel like it ever 'moves forward', anyway, just side to side. No new CONTENT is actually added, just fiddling with the code and things rebalanced and switched around. So even a version from like 2007 would hardly feel like a step backwards in many ways, just a step into a different room.

reverting back to old versions just lets us take advantages of alot of bugs that we all know...
changing from allowances to exp should be the discussion.

I think ffo is gonna be its own game regardless of terulia.

getting it back on byond could be accomplished mostly by the community. all we have to do is..
change the name and base icons maybe NB icons and monsters and no one would be the wiser that it is a ff game..

anyone caring enough to look will never get that far..

The things that you write bring a single tear. Anyways,the mater at hand. I do agree with your statement of a lot of oldbies coming back to liven up the community. Hell een if they don't I can see the more familar exp system would cause a lot more activity from current players as well even.

The allowance system is really... I don't necessarily know how to put it correctly in words, but my personal feelings lead me to boring. Its not completely a bad idea, but there would need to be a lot of tweaks that there's no point to having since that system was built for terulia to begin with.

All in all, if at all possible, for the revert that's supposed to happen I would be more than willing to take the 2010 revert. Any idea when this revert will be taking place now that the voting is over?

Addition of bugs is a step backward, not to the other side.

I agree that rebalancing is difficult but that's also in part because of all of the different max WLCs we see.

We've been doing the 55 WLC for a few servers and although it seems a little high to me, if we continue to balance from there & stop changing it it's not an issue.

Oldbies won't be livening ****. There will be more people for a little while and then most likely the server would go back to normal/die. The fact that we are pwiping a month into a server is also silly.

If Gaku already said that closing FFO wouldn't speed up Terulia production I don't think you have any more arguments left to make.

The allowance system is fine except for overproffing capped skills, which could easily be fixed.

Edit: Supposedly the wipe allowance was added, there wasn't a pwipe required. If we could do that in reverse I would be all for it. I do feel that both systems have their perks but I also agree that exp just seemed more fun especially since you could watch your progress. It also changed game play so zones like ruins that right now are almost worthless because of repair costs alone, were worth it because you could get exp for fighting with what worked best and not spamming whatever you were trying to level.

I would like to note that this topic isn't about reverting or not, and whether or not you like it.

This topic stands in that, in case there actually is a revert to previous host files (as in, it still is up in the air until Gaku makes the final call), that we get the right hosts files up (2010).

I just want to see who all would prefer this over the buggy 2008 version :P

I think he actually only has the host files of older versions and not sources. Just me assuming though.
