So... What now?, Things seem... dead.

Is nobody playing FFO anymore or did the drama/fun just die down? I'm current nocturnal and the only ones I see actually on in the AMs half the time are Po, Ares, and Mint, (And Cea, and a few people I don't know). Granted, I shouldn't be expecting much action in the AMs.

I been looking around in the forums, and besides the **** storms between Deylin and what seems to be the rest of the forums, things are dead here too. Most topics are months old, even YEARS old.

Should I even bother playing or just wait till another wipe comes around?

A thing I also noticed from various topics similar in some ways to this one is that people brought up a bunch of points I myself was thinking of at first, but when I saw them, those plus my thoughts solidified my new found opinion on FFO. Mostly points about how the game has changed, like that nobody wants to play a game you have to put in the time someone under 16 could put in but a sane, employed person just wanting to have a good time wouldn't bother.

So uh.... what's up? I'm really curious as to the fate of FFO. Heh.

I don't know about Star Wars, but if it's Skyrim, I figure maybe.... a good half a year or more of constant play and people will start getting bored of it. That won't stop them from making more characters, but there's only so much exploration and adventuring you can take before you know it all, know whats broken, and just win at everything in the Elder Scrolls games; even glitching, just look at item duping in Oblivion and the Animation screw ups that are hilarious in Skyrim.

Try using Frost Form on a Troll/Frost Troll on the side of a really steep slope or sloped cliff. The results are hysterical.

GET TO DUH TROLLPA!!

i guess between gaku like as of 2 years ago or more saying ffos dead and he's focussing completely on terulia, and byond absolutely neutering any fangame's ability to ever be popular or known on their service again, it's pretty much pack up shop until terulia's actually finished or something?

Heh.

It seems rather silly to proclaim such a game dead, then host it anyways, and then tweak the system despite saying it's dead. At that point just revamp it to be a workable version of Terulia and have players test that rather than approach FFO as... well... FFO.

A little while back we could still play the game, get at least SOME fun out of it, without needing to devote our entire LIVES to the game. Now with how profs are...

Arg. FFO right now seems like a great car with a terrible driver who wants to crash it no matter where it's gotten him. If you're just going to pronounce it dead and leave much of everything up to the players, give someone the files for the game. It's not like anyone is going to make rip offs, Byond saw to that already.

Gaku needs to let this **** storm go and give it to people who actually, you know, still want to play it and AREN'T focused on Terulia to kill what they've created? 3.5 or pre-3.5.... whatever, seems to be a fan favorite or something.

Gaku now:
NUU, I'LL CRASH AND BURN FFO AND RAISE TERULIA FROM THE ASHES AND THERS NOTHING J00 CAN DO, BWAHAHA!

Everybody else:
...Erm... ooookay, but we were quite content with the first one...

If Terulia were somewhat complete, this wouldn't be an issue - FFO would already be down. But it isn't. And now that I've got a whole new set of obligations piled on so I can finish the graduate program by the end of the summer, I'm not sure if it's going to be any time soon. The easiest thing to do in the interim is reboot FFO.

To imply that playing FFO means that you have no life is pretty unintelligent of yourself Vurtex. People play games like FFO for entertainment, and some of us even have friends that play even. We all have some sort of life outside of FFO, some moreso than others.

I play ffo when I have literally nothing else to do, which with general weakness from chemo, is quite often, altho I found ffthg is now up again so **** ffo atleast until the pwipe where I have motivation to play again, cause now ffo is more pointless then usual, btw gaku can't u just pwipe it now? Q.Q

Still think you should just pass the game files over to someone you can trust with them.

Seems like depending on how Terulia is, you'll either lose a **** load of people, or a bunch of people will still play because you killed FFO and the FFTHG is pretty much the only competition you've got, and I've played a good chunk of it, it gets to be a ***** without a party around level 20 or so. Then again, unless you're shooting for a complete community reboot by making Terulia a custom game rather than a fan game, I don't know how far you're into shifting what you've used for FFO into custom stuff, then it'll probably be successful.

I bunch of people, including myself, would probably very much appreciate going the extra mile just to give someone the files and have them host. Out of everyone on the forums more so than the actual game right now, I'm sure there's at least someone willing to host the old versions or even this version of FFO, as bad as it is.

It just seems silly to let the current game completely die. You've been successful at establishing a whole freaking community with this game, and are already making it a forum based one rather than them actually playing your game. I don't know if it's not giving a **** about what other people think, or just thinking that whatever you're doing is for the better of the community or any future community Terulia picks up, but you've come so far and you've got a crossroads, the people that think you're blowing out of your ass about Terulia, and the people that like FFO, at least the older versions, and want that. And of course the people standing between them and not giving a ****. Lul.

If anything, do a Pwipe and put up a level cap. Either that or make the level cap go up maybe.... once a month? Once every two weeks? Nothing game breaking and gives people more of a reason to train rather than get their profs to max at 35, then take a break and realize they have to catch up to 37 after a few days or so. And adding perms back in would be nice but I ain't expecting no miracles. I hate to sound like one of 'those people' but removing permas didn't help the grind fest situation either. Now the only way toget your gold is to kill monsters and players, and while this would make for a great reason to party and what not, it means you'd better hope you have a domain with a bank sitting around, or you're going to be carrying around a ton of gold. I also heard there was some sort of max gold limit or something, and being unable to carry more than 5 unengraved items.

It's like you're TRYING to make the game unplayable till Terulia comes out.

All of this IMO.

reply to The Mage Of Disbelief:

Gaku never claimed the game is dead, really. For some reason he still hosts it for the few of us that like wasting our time on the game while he slowly works on Terulia.

For the past few hostings there have been a solid player base regardless of how long the game has been going. From the sounds of one of your paragraphs, it seems like you did not really play this hosting but just popped on after it hit a brick wall.

This hosting had a complete rework of the proffing system. For about two weeks, there was a terrible complete imbalance of multiple things. Melees could use skills about three times and get a prof, while Mages had to use their skills some sixty or seventy thousand times to get a prof. Weapons proffed at the speed of light.

The issue was something like a dumb number that was accidentally making natural profs impossibly hard or something which was not fixed until I posted about proffing being super hard.

It was so stupid dumb half of the players left the game "until a pwipe happens". More players left because of the lack of players. Eventually it got down to just like five players.

Theoretically, the pwipe will bring back more people and make it more like the hosting a year ago, without the dumb broken bull****.

Edit: Oh yeah, and the first thing most people learn when playing this game is to trust no one. Gaku has tried to trust people multiple times - Dream's server, Marcus's re-vamping status spells, Jeebs/Deylin's GM stuff a year ago.

So pretty much it's just mostly deadish because of what's been going on lately with the changes?

And that's just bad, that the people who got the game or were trusted to host it ****ed everybody over, pretty much. Bleh, a pwipe sounds wonderful. At least so all that work I could make putting into a mage won't be entirely wasted because the server is BEGGING to be pwiped.

Well, I'll still play just when it gets wiped. Someone leave a message here if/when it gets pwiped, bookmarked and will check this topic everyday for pwipe info. For now, just going to play Dungeon Fighter Online till it does.
