Banks, Pretty useless, amirite?

Thoughts? Take notice of the gold return when you have 300 and 400 gold invested.


I've been going on about how there are no tangible benefits to owning a domain for some time. This is right up there with domains. Why own a bank? Convenience? I could just as easily store my bank on a mule in New Banian and the imps and wolves that spawn on my walk to town from the docks would yield more gold in drops than a bank would in interest, and I don't have to worry about some rivals burning down my mule and stealing all the gold.

350 x 6 rather, so 2100 a day. that's quite petty for investing so much into a bank especially given how vulnerable money in a bank is.

I don't expect it to be changed or anything, I'm just pointing out how crappy you the bank system is and why myself and others will continue to uses mules instead of banks.

Although, once we reach the level where we stand a chance against domains, and bank burning is even possible by people other than the lord, then I totally agree with your idea of making bank interest rates increase the longer a domain is owned.

How is that a domain specific benefit? You can live in argo with the same benefits, minus setting guard activity and impunities, and a lack of dsay (which is worthless since we've TRC now). The guards in Argo will rip you apart if you pull any shenanigans in town.

this post has honestly convinced me to start storing money on and alt finally, after years of being addicted to putting hundreds of thousands of gold in banks to get a slowly increasing interest benefit that never really becomes worth the massive amount of money you have to have in a rather unstable structure that could all be stolen by knizians int he blink of an eye while you're asleep

i think the interest idea is cool but it's so ... bad. you'd need millions to get a good daily profit and by the time you have millions you'll generally want to start spending it on making your high-tier weapons perfect or something and you probably get so much money daily from raiding or whatever anyway to have that much money to begin with that the few thousand you'd get from keeping it in the bank would be like a drop in the bucket

Banks should NEVER be close to being even remotely fast cash. They aren't meant for fast cash they're supposed to be the only method of hoarding gold. But since alts are possible in FFO still people will use them for large amounts of gold.

I don't disagree with this statement however there should be benefits to investing large sums of gold. The rewards don't justify the risks currently.

An easier solution would be to limit the amount of gold that a character can hold.

You could likely halve the numbers and it'd still work out well, since after level 20 the limit isn't going to be reached.

level 1-10: 10,000g per level -- 100K at 10
level 11-20: 50,000g per level -- 1M at 20
level 21-30: 100,000g per level -- 3M at 30
level 31-40: 200,000g per level -- 8M at 40
level 41+: 500,000g per level -- 25M at 50

Adjusted numbers for halving

level 1-10: 5,000g per level -- 50k at 10
level 11-20: 25,000g per level -- 500k at 20
level 21-30: 50,000g per level -- 1.5m at 30
level 31-40: 100,000g per level -- 4m at 40
level 41+: 250,000g per level -- 12.5m at 50
